Case Study 1: High Street Retailer Heat and Lighting Controls

Objectives

To reduce energy spend and usage through automation of heating and lighting function of high street retailer's stores across the UK. By removing the human element from operations this allowed unnecessary costs being incurred by heating and lighting the store(s) outside of operating hours.

SOLUTION

SIG retrofitted their Insight and control devices directly within the stores existing electrical distrubtion board. This enabled live half hourly energy usage from the main incomer. The control element was then remotely programmed to turn the heating and lighting on at the appropriate times in order to optimise the energy usage within the store.

Temperature probes were also installed in order to monitor the ambient temperature within the store - removing the risk of over or under heating and possible further energy wastage.

OUTCOMES

Easy and Quick Install

System installed during one nightshift to enable no lost operating hours within the shop and 100% success rate of lighting and heating elements being activated during operating hours.

Reduced Energy Usage

Reduced wastage from automation of heating and lighting meant a 18.87% reduction in energy usage over like for like period (data normalised for different temperature profiles).

Further Savings Possible

Further analysis of ambient temperatue data enable quanitfication of heating and thermal efficency characteristics of the building for potential further savings down the line.
